11.75" x 16.5" (A3)
pen & watercolor on paper
Lose yourself the many intricacies of this luxurious floral rosette.
This piece is my very first foray into the branch of Islamic design known variously as floral, arabesque, islimi, or biomorphic - all words which convey the fact that the elegant curves are inspired by the natural growth of plants and flowers.
It was challenging, yet liberating, for me to put down my compass and straightedge after doing the preliminary layout and draw freehand (gasp!) the many, many curves of the design. Once the pattern was complete, I outlined it in pen and painted it with watercolor, following the original color scheme of this medallion, which exists as tile work in the city of Yadz.
NOTE: This piece ships unframed in a protective tube or mailer. The frame shown is for example only.
